The theme for 2018 is "Manifest Destiny" and while it took me until evening on December 31st to come up with the theme, I got it done in time for the ball to drop.
I was torn between two concepts as the theme for this year. It came down to "Oregon Trail" and "Manifest Destiny" but ultimately, I opted for the latter. It's not the former did not work at all, but the reason I decided on Manifest Destiny as the theme for 2018 is also because "Oregon Trail" wasn't all-encompasing enough for what I have planned for the year. I tend to be a bit Type A and an overachiever (think more Leslie Knope from Parks & Rec than Lisa Simpson), but all of the stuff I have on the docket is still pretty reasonable. It's rather tongue in cheek, but I like the ring of it.
First, I will be moving to Mountain Home, Idaho. It is roughly 2,344 miles away from my current abode in Old Town Alexandria. It will be the furthest I've ever moved in one fell swoop, and it's to a place I've never even driven through.
Second, I will be starting a new job as an Air Force historian for the F-15 Gunfighters at Mountain Home AFB.
Third, I will be presenting new research on women and ramen in Hollywood movies in Indianapolis with the PCA/ACA conference in March.
Fourth, I will be getting married, and changing my last name.
Fifth, I will defend my dissertation prospectus, and hopefully get approval to work on this topic for the dissertation. I'm looking at the depictions of Japanese food in Hollywood movies.
